DS has recently turned 16 and so we are going through the whole switchover process.
DS has autism, full time 1:1 in school. Needs help with pretty much everything self care, cutting food, making food, making decisions, cannot be left alone, cannot go anywhere alone, meltdowns, needs someone to recognise when something is wrong as although verbal he will just freeze, BUT... we are no longer under consultant care, after diagnosis we were discharged. I'm worried that cause problems with his claim. Also, I've been made his appointee but does the money need to go into an account for him (he currently doesnt have one) or my own?
I have mh issues myself and the whole situation is making me sick if I'm honest. I'm so worried about him leaving school and just everything really. Any advice on what to expect or what the process was like for you and your dc would be hugely appreciated.

The money can go into your account if that’s what you want. Not being under consultant care doesn’t mean there will be a problem. Many with ASD are diagnosed and promptly discharged. If DS has 1:1 at school that should be good evidence of the levels of his needs.

The benefits and work website is helpful.

Agree the PIP money should go into an account in your name. I have a separate account for my adult son, but it’s in my name. I think I had to set up a new account for this. I had help with filling in the PIP forms from a disability adviser from the money advice unit. I presume your son has an EHCP so that I think can be part of you evidence of need.

Hi my daughter has just recently started getting PIP she’s just turned 17 she was awarded enhanced care and enhanced mobility. She wouldn’t go to the assessment as she was far to anxious so I asked for a phone assessment and spoke on her behalf x

Thanks all. The forms arrived yesterday so I'm starting the process of filling them in. I'm just thinking now that I describe him and hope for a good outcome. I found a good guide to filling in the forms on CAB website. Am dreading the in person assessment mainly due to my own anxiety, my mh is so bad that I struggle to speak to people so it will be a tough thing to do for the both of us.
