Anyone got experience of supported internship?

Hi, my DD aged 20 has Asperger's and gave up on her specialist autism college placement in about April this year. She disengaged from all her study courses after her key worker left for another job at the end of last year. I didn't really know what to do with her so contacted the transitions team from the council who have sent a woman round once a week for an hour. She takes DD to a coffee shop or for a walk so I don't really know what they talk about and I want DD to be more independent so that's a plus. Anyway, DD showed me an email from a month ago from a supported internship programme that I think they (DD and the transitions worker) have applied for however they requested the ehcp a month ago and DD did nothing about it until now. I have sent the ehcp off and hope she will be successful in this programme, however looking online I am not sure if it attracts any living costs for her or whether she can apply for benefits. I have funded her entirely until now, but given the cost of living rises struggle to see how much longer I can fund another adult plus see to all her other needs like get her out of the house bar the 1 hour a week the transitions person comes.

Any advice on the supported internship process would be greatly received!

Supported internships don’t have to be paid, many aren’t, and where they are they aren’t subject to the minimum wage.

Is DD, or an appointee on her behalf, claiming PIP and UC?

Thanks for the reply. After posting yesterday I did put in a UC application for her as I don't want her to miss out on her state pension later down the line. I really struggled with it mentally if I'm honest. Anyway, it is now going to cause me loads of extra administrative as they want her to attend an appointment at a place she won't be able to get to on Monday when I am at work all day and her Dad will take her but won't follow up or tell me what's happening properly. She does get PIP already. I am not sure how to be an appointee, there wasn't that option on the online form

You have to ask DWP if you wish to apply to be appointee. Although, if DD has been successfully managing her own PIP claim for the last few years they may not agree it is necessary.
