6th form with different LA - will this cause problems with an EHCP application?

DD, 17, has had a diagnosis of ADHD since 13, with a previous diagnosis of dyslexia from the age of 8.

Schools have always given her additional time and made necessary adjustments for her, but we've never had an EHCP, CAHMS have never suggested it and neither have any of her schools.

She had a number of non-educational problems with her secondary school so opted to go to a 6th form college outside of the LA, where she's doing really well.

Anyway (sorry for the essay!), she was recently seen by the OT and diagnosed with quite severe dyspraxia. This led her psychologist at CAHMS to reassess her for ASD this week, and he has now diagnosed her with high-functioning autism, with the other 3 diagnoses being resultant co-morbidities. He has advised me to apply for an EHCP, as he feels this will help her in further education.

I work in a school myself and know the local LA is very hard to get an EHCP from, and I'm worried that the fact she goes to a 6th form in a different borough will count against her, as our "home" LA won't be getting the funding.

Has anyone experienced this and was it a problem? Any advice would be much appreciated, as this is all new to me...

Thank you for reading.

This won’t be a problem. Pupils often attend school/college out of area. It doesn’t change the EHCP process. The LA you live in retain responsibility.
