Hi all,
i used to post here years ago when DS was tiny and am returning for some of the excellent advice the MN SN community always provides. DS is coming to the end of his pre GCSE year (year 10) and he has really struggled in his exams. French and music are ok but the rest are down at around 20 -30%. Feedback from his teachers is his work during the year is OK but he struggles with effective revision, retaining material and applying it in the exam.
i see it myself when I do French grammar with him - he understands fine, test him 10 minutes later he’s perfect, ask him two days later and it’s fallen out of his brain.
its an improvement on where he was a year ago, when he was basically having meltdowns in every exam. But it’s not great. We are wondering if giving him an extra year to mature, find a revision technique that works for him and go over the material again might help. School are considering it too - initial feedback is they think it might help.
any thoughts or similar experience welcome. Be gentle, I’m a bit low and tearful over the whole thing …
