How did the SENCO help your ADHD child with GCSE prep

Really, just that - I'd love to know what kind of support and help was offered?

At the moment, I'm feeling that we are doing all the supporting and school are not really trying, but perhaps my expectations are unrealistic. And it's probably better to know that before I go mad at the school...

You posted a few weeks ago, but it caught my eye because AFAIK, my DC wasn’t given any prep or advice specifically for GCSEs.

DC has other SENs but it astounds me now how little explanation has been given on how SENs impact learning, revision, taking exams etc Especially when GCSEs predominately assess a student’s memory. We are supporting and advocating for our DC as best we can but schools/SENCO’s seem oblivious to this huge gap in learning needs.

Ah thank you - and yes, I agree.

We've got two problems - one is not knowing how to revise, as you say, and the other is that she has issues in terms of structuring essays and planning.

How did your DC cope?

My DD1 has dyspraxia, so issues with learning & organisation & structuring.
I ended up doing most revision 1-1 with her, it was the only way. Luckily she was willing. Also luckily it was just before the recent reforms.

I organised revision timetable with her input.
Lots of repetition.
Not trying to learn all the fine details.
Masses and masses of practice with Eng Lang (she only passed due to controlled assessments, wouldn't pass current exam).

For DD2 (dyslexia&dyspraxia) we have given her a structure for both Q5s for Engl Lang in the hope that will help. We'll find out in August.

Oh, and revision was almost entirely from revision guides, not class notes.
