Feeling sad

The English teacher has asked DS if he wants to drop Literature. He's just a few weeks away from GCSE exams. It's good that school want to remove some stress but I'm naturally upset. Makes me realise just how difficult learning is for him.

Hi OP, Can I ask how your DS feels about dropping the subject?

I know as a parent it can be so hard for us to accept these things sometimes.

Thank you for replying, that's very kind. He's fine about it. Just hits hard when I've tried to help him.
Walked past our local University today. Make me realise he will never have the experience of living away to study and all the fun things that go with it

Your welcome OP.
My DD went through the same thing but with maths, so I can relate to how you feel. She’s now an young adult at a local university doing an access course (but recently dropped maths there). We do at times wonder if she will manage with the rest of the course but then I have to remind myself she’s doing something…at least for now.

Try to think of it as a positive, there are a silly amount of GCSES exams to sit and dropping two exam papers will take some pressure off. My DS dropped English literature and just did language as majority of places are only interested in the English language.

Am also feeling blue as DS’s contemporaries are visiting their proposed universities and parents are excitedly posting on social media. DS has taken a nosedive, on track to probably fail or scrape through year 13 exams. No real firm plans for post school. Awful as he was so sparky.

I know it will be longer path for him and it is great to read previous poster writing about their child doing an access course, such a positive. But it is sad when your child is left behind.
