Care Home issues - is this abusive?

Hi, my nephew is a permanent resident in a Care Home, he is 28.
He is severely disabled with cerebral palsy, cannot move on his own etc.
He was ‘making a nuisance and not doing as he was told’ a few days ago, so a member of staff put him in his room and switched his powered wheelchair off - leaving him totally immobile.

Surely this is not allowed?

Also he had an emergency visit to A&E a couple of weeks ago. When I collected his laundry from the Home I found all his discharge papers screwed up at the bottom of the laundry bag.
All his medical history, medications, personal details - what should I be saying to the Manager about this?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

I only come upon your post when I posted last night but it has stayed with me and felt compelled to reply today.
Yes, to me it is abuse. I would definitely make your feelings known to manager and also speak to your nephew’s care manager if he has one or the local authority( who I assume are funding the place) safeguarding team and bring up the Winterbourne View case.

Thank you for replying. I have spoken to the Area Manager for the company that owns the care homes, and she was furious.

She has been to visit the Home in person, and has reminded the Manager that under no circumstances should this method of control be used to “get residents to behave”.

Wow just seen this.
Yes imo that is abuse, my dd is similar age and disability and in a care home. If they did that to her I would be furious and complaining to the manager.
Glad to hear the area manager has dealt with it.
