College interview

DS(15) wants me to go with him. I think he should go on his own. Do parents normally attend college interviews? Will it be frowned on if I am there to support him ?

Dd has a college interview next week for a foundation course and I’m going with her, she’s 17 but has difficulty talking sometimes (selective mutism) so I’ll follow her lead in whether she wants me in the actual interview. For her interview at 15 before A levels, I went to the college with her but she did the actual interview on her own. I think I remember that the information for that interview said only one parent could attend (first year of COVID), so I assume they are used to parents going, I don’t think it would be frowned on. I just follow DD’s lead on what she wants.

Common practice now from what I saw with ds1 is that parents attend with student whether NT or with an ASC. This was true both for sixth from college and university open days. Infact it was rare that a student was on their own and many were accompanied by both parents. Apparently these days parental support is regarded as an asset rather than a negative as it was back in my day many years ago.
