Adult DD recently diagnosed with ASD doesn’t accept it…

Just that really. DD also has ADHD inattentive type and accepts that diagnosis as she practically diagnosed herself before we made the decision to get it checked out.

This ASD diagnosis hasn’t gone down well….she feels she doesn’t ‘fit’ the criteria.

Where do I go with this? She never wants to talk about it….

Was it her idea to be assessed? Which situations have been difficult for her, and will she get any adjustment or support she needs with "just" the ADHD diagnosis?

Does she feel that being diagnosed with ADHD is enough of an explanation? Sometimes people with ADHD have a few ASD symptoms as well, or vice versa...

If she's truly unhappy with the diagnosis, I would recommend either trying to get a second opinion from another professional, or, if possible, to seek support that focuses on ADHD instead of autism.

Yes it was her idea to be assessed as she didn’t believe she was on the spectrum. She says she felt the answers she gave were in some way skewed to fit the purpose!
High anxiety plays a big part in her life and she can’t travel alone due to this. She’s started an Access course at Uni which she really enjoys so I’ve not tried again talking to her about the diagnosis, fear of upsetting her more than anything.
Thanks for your reply, I’m just trying to take one step at a time now..
