SN teens and young adults

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on SN.

Is this doable or am I kidding myself?

I have seen a job which still part time but is more hours than I currently do. It fits in with school hours.

However there is the hurdle of school holidays.

One of my teen dc has SN and can be left for an hour or so without an adult in the home but not for 6 hours which I will be out for.

Extended family would at a stretch agree to have my dc for two days over the whole year.

My exh, their dad, works different hours every week. One week he could have them two days the next week no days, another week one day.

As far as I know there is no childcare provision for over 13's.

If I did find a childminder, I would be worse off financially than I am now. But maybe have more job satisfaction as it is in an area I have a passion for. I took my current job as a stop gap 6 years ago. Never thought I would still be there now but grateful I have a small job.

So is it doable to try and change my job for something else or shall I just stick it out for a few more years and hope my teen is able to be left for longer periods by then? I have spent a lot of my life not taking various jobs as it is not convenient for other people. Eh exh, dc.

Or should I apply just for experience. There is no guarantee I would be offered an interview anyway.

Have you looked at your local offer and what short breaks provision there is. Has DC had a social care assessment? You may be able to get some direct payments - it is not childcare and wouldn't cover 6hours/5 days a week but it could cover some of the time you need and you can use the DPs at the time you happen to need childcare.

You have nothing to lose by applying.

@Imitatingdory Ty. I didnt know she would be entitled to a social care assessment or short break provision.

Is that through my local council?

Yes, through your LA. You can find more information here.
