I wondered if anyone has any experience of helping get a teenager with ADHD through their GCSE's.
My son is 14 and coming to the end of year 10. He has a great interest in coding, maths and science. He really dislikes English.
He is a bright boy, but is inattentive. He takes medication for school and this has seen a marked improvement in his attainment and enjoyment of school.
The problem seems to be his consistency and ability to concentrate on more than one subject. He says he can throw one ball really high and do well, but not more than one. So he has been concentrating on science and did well, top set, predicted 8.
Then he needed to concentrate on Maths. He did loads of revision for that, got a great grade, but his science has now slipped to a 3!
I am concerned about how we help him to be able to attend to all subjects. He tends to hyperfocus and obsess about one thing (in his own time and school work) and everything else falls away. He is all or nothing and I am concerned for next year and the mocks coming up in November.
School are not very on it with him. He causes no trouble, he is enjoyable to teach, but this inconsistency he has doesn't seem to get picked up.
He could come out with 7/8 in the subjects he enjoys and is good at, but equally he could get 3/4 if they are not what he is paying attention to!
Help!
