Online autism test for teenager - any suggestions?

DS 16 has just asked me to get him assessed for autism. We are going to go down the CAHMS route but the waiting list is months and months. He wants to do an online test. He understands it isn't definitive, he is very self-aware and understands systems well so I'm not worried that he will take an online test as proof and would accept a ddifferent outcome if CAHMS said so.
Can anyone recommend a good test to do online? Thank you :)

The AQ test is pretty comprehensive.

The 'thing' with autism is each individual has their own pattern of traits, measured in terms of observed strengths and weaknesses. that's why a professional assessment is much more than lots of tickybox questions.

In NT people, if you plotted their test results, they would look just about like a circle with a few variations but not many.

With autism, someone can be really good at some tasks but abysmally poor at others and average at others, the plot of their test results could look more like a random splatter as they can have average and above average results on some topics yet very low scores on others.
As an example, my autistic DD's scores ranged from over 90th centile to less than 1st centile with a few middling.
That's what's called a 'spiky profile' and gives a large clue as to neurodiversity being present.

You are very fortunate that your son seems very open to the idea of having autism, but do still stress that different does not mean inferior.

I was heartened to see this article where different thinkers are being actively recruited for some roles as they tend to be better at certain tasks than NT people because of their different perspectives. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/apr/29/people-with-dyslexia-have-skills-that-we-need-says-gchq

@BlankTimes
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer. The links look really helpful. We are definitely going to be going on the positive about it all. I've been doing some reading around how some people have found it very positive thing to be diagnosed and some of the personality traits that they equate to being autistic have actually been very positive. I feel quite emotional about it all as it is something that we have gone back and forth with over many years but for various reasons never took it any further. Thanks again
