PIP award extended but now sent renewal

In October I received a letter from the DWP saying that DS1's award had been extended to November 2021.

Now they have sent a renewal form (just received) that I have to submit by 31 jan.

I phoned them and they said they suspended renewals due to Covid but have now now resumed work and I should ignore the October letter and award will be stopped if I don't submit renewal by the end of the month. They said they can extend by 2 weeks.

Can they do this?

Yes they can send a renewal form at any time
