Dd11 sudden onset tics

5 weeks ago my DD2 age 11 started out if the blue with a neck jerk tic along with several word tics!
The GP has advised us to wait it out as he thinks they will resolve as these tics came after an extremely stressful time which included a bereavement

My question really is
Is it really likely that this will pass or more likely to develop into Tourette's? I have absolutely no experience in this at all so any advice or positive stories very welcome

My 14yr old daughter (asd) came home from school with horrendous tics one day a few weeks ago. So bad that I took her to a and e as I had no idea what it was! They said it was quite common and had increased post lockdown. Stress related. Has happened a few times since but not as bad and she doesn’t panic now because she knows that they’ll go. Hope that helps

I’m sitting reading this thread as 15dd ASD is randomly ticking while I’m the bath which was to help her relax.
It breaks my heart to listen to her knowing there’s pretty much nothing I can do to make it better for her.
Thankfully tonight it’s just”Hi” what are you doing “ over and over along with clicking her tongue.

I've found this thread as I too have a DD who's developed a sudden onset tic. It was the occassional tic that I think started in August but in the last 10 days has manifested to full blown constant ticing. She's 12 and just started yr 7 but is not and never has been stressed or had trauma. I can't understand what's happened to her. The last couple of days she's been having vocal tics too and her voice is changing to be all babyish. I know kids at school have been saying she's making it up for attention and being like urg we'll catch something from you. It's just heartbreaking. The kids in her primary were so lovely and she's now with a bunch of really horrible boys in her class who are laughing at her and being nasty. I'm trying to get a homepath appointment (has anyone tried this?) and am looking into getting magnesium and vit B6. I'm finding the facebook group TIC talk UK for parents, kids and adults with Tourettes or transient tics helpful with advice. I just can't stop crying (not in front of DD obvs) and feel like the most amazing, confident, funny girl is gone forever. I am so despondent. I only seem to read the cases where this thing just doesn't go away and just gets worse. My son had a stutter for about 5 months when he was 7 and I didn't think it would go but then it did overnight. So I know it's possible I guess. Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I couldn't find anything more recent. I hope you and your DC are all doing well.
