My DS is in Year 12 and undiagnosed but has many traits of HFA. He has always struggled with forming close friends and is rarely, if ever included in social plans. No one texts, he doesn't online game. He is a keen speed cuber so can spend hours alone practicing. He is a self-professed geek.
However he is desperate to be invited to parties, socials and get a girlfriend. However he seems to go under everyone's radar. He is bright, intelligent but painfully shy and lonely. Others kids like him but he is never included in anyone's plans.
During lockdown he has had no contact with anyone. He was just beginning to find his feet in the sixth form and although was still never invited out by peers in school at least he had some social contact even it was 'on the fringes'
Now i think he feels all progress is lost. Even now they are allowed to meet one friend he admitted to me that he has no one to 'meet'. So very sad. He said he is sad and lonely.
He is really keen to go to university where I think he thinks everything will miraculously fall into place but after a lifetime of being ignored by peers I am worried about this too.
He's savvy and wouldn't allow any suggestions of youth groups etc.
Any advice or even hearing from someone going through similar would help
