Bedwetting Autistic 16yr old and a long car journey!

Hi, my son is 16 and is autistic. He wets the bed every night and we've tried seeing doctors about it and they can't seem to find any apparent issues? We've decided it's easiest for him to wear pull-ups in bed, which he sometimes needs a bit of help getting into at night. They are wet every morning and he is normally fine during the day but sometimes has some leaks, but we have a long car journey planned and I am certain he will sleep during the trip. I'm not sure whether we should just use the pull-ups during the entire trip and change them when he wets, which he doesn't always tell me when he does as he normally awakes wet, Or try something else? I think the pull-ups would be best but just wasn't sure.

Thanks! Smile

I'd go with the pullups, he's familiar with them and the routine around them. Using anything else as well as the change to his routine of the long journey could be difficult for him to cope with.

I agree - I would probably use pull-ups if your son will allow it. Another possibility ( if the journey is overnight) might be to try Desmopressin ( I think that is how it’s spelt) tablet melts if your GP or Eneuresis clinic felt it was worth trying. However you would need to try it out in advance and be fairly sure it worked. also as desmopressin inhibits urine production, drinks would have to be limitedafter taking it. We used pull-ups with desmomelts for our teen ( also asd) in similar circumstances.
