ASD dd starting university

Hi, I hope I am in the right place for advise. My DD aged 19 started university today. She moved to her halls of residence over the weekend. I am having separation anxiety. I asked her today how her first day went and she said that it was OK although the others seemed to have started friendship groups. She said she sat on her own. I am stressing that she will not cope and make friends. Is there anyone with experience of their ASD child going to university and how they got on. TIA.

Have you or has she approached the Disabled Student services people at Uni for help? They don't contact you, you have to ask.

I think my dd is in touch but will contact them too. Thank you

@Crafteegreen
I'd also try asking on the Higher Ed Board.

One post on this thread is quite telling, some unis expect the students to say what interventions and help they need. If your DD is at one of those, can she self-advocate enough to do that, not just academically but socially too?

Universities have lots of resources available to student they do have to identify themselves to the additional needs services people and also they only provide academic support not healthcare (though they work closely with the student medical centre). My dd has remained living at home because it made more sense for her
