The phobia of pooing

My daughter is 13 years old and has high functioning asd. We have always had trouble with her pooing regularly but it has recently come to light that she is actually very terrified of it. However she is very terrified of not going at the same time because she "doesn't want to die" (her words not mine). Has anyone else had experience with this? And if so, do what do you recommend we try? She is very open to trying anything that will help her which is a BIG step for her. (Please note she is not my biological daughter and only came into my life 3-4 years ago so I was not present during the potty training period).
