Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on SN.

Claiming PIP for 16 yr olds who get DLA.

I’ll put this in SN as well but just wanted to post something positive which might reassure other parents of teens approaching 16 who get DLA currently.

My son was 16 in December and I was told at that point to claim PIP for him.

Someone from the DWP came out to see us and signed me up as DS’s appointee as he isn’t able to manage money yet.

I put the claim in at the end of February with all the evidence etc.

Heard yesterday that he’s been awarded enhanced rate care and mobility until 2024.,

Am still in a state of shock as I was expecting him to be called for a Face to Face assessment but they seem to have decided that isn’t needed. To be fair they did have copies of all his speech therapy assessments and occupational therapy input plus some stuff from his school .

So it was quick
It was relatively painless apart from the form which as we all know is hellish.

I'm really glad i found this thread as i will be in this position with ds soon

does anyone know if you can print out a thread please (lots of useful links

BlankTimes · 17/04/2020 03:31

If you print it out, the links won't be active.

Save the thread URL to a draft email or a Word.doc. or copy the links you want there.

If you're thinking of using anything linked as part of your evidence on the PIP form, they don't accept any information about conditions from online sources IIRC.

BlankTimes

thank you, that's very helpful, I will do that now

I am hoping we will have enough evidence from Psychiatrist, School etc but if they interview ds himself he will simply agree to whatever they say as he is very rule abiding and will simply want it to stop :(

I returned to this section to seek out a bit of advice and see I previously posted here so will refresh my memory with all this. We finally got notification (very short notice) that DS's tribunal for appeal is to be be this Tuesday by phone. We've been waiting a while! April 2109 I see I posted on here. So this is to update and if anyone has any further tips and advice. I will consider starting a new thread but thought I'd try on this one first.

BlankTimes · 04/08/2020 12:00

Just seen your post, fingers crossed for you Flowers

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 09/08/2020 04:03

@BlankTimes Thanks love. Hoping to hear very soon. It could go either way I'd say!

BlankTimes · 09/08/2020 18:55

The not knowing must be agonising. I don't know how phone Tribunals work, do the panel ask you questions independently?

Still keeping everything crossed for you Flowers

Good luck Dont. Starting a PIP application is one of the things on my 'to do' list this week for 16 year old Ds. I'm not sure if they have restarted the face to face assessments yet. We never claimed DLA so it's all new to us.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 09/08/2020 21:48

@BlankTimes It was a phone conference so the judge, doctor and disability bod were all joining us from separate phones. Should hear next week - they said should hear I think within 5 days, 10 at latest. Will keep you updated. Half of me hates waiting. Half of me thinks for now at least I don't know it's a no.
@Punxsutawney It's a fun process. Hmm I recommend getting a bit of advice. I started with Citizen's advice and then found an independent advisor (who I paid but not too much). Fingers crossed for you. :-)

Punxsutawney · 09/08/2020 22:05

Thanks Don't, have been doing a fair bit of paperwork for Ds recently (trying to get him the support he needs at school) and I'm not relishing the thought of this at all. 😟

BlankTimes · 09/08/2020 23:29

Don't that sounds really difficult. At the in-person Tribunal, our judge told us that the panel all have a copy of everything you've submitted and they go through it independently in their own homes, then they get together and discuss the case to decide what questions they each want to ask you.

I agree with your outlook, the no news is good news bit. still have everything crossed for you Flowers Do let us know.

Punx I saved these links to pass on for anyone who was new to the PIP process. I haven't re-read them so it may be duplicated info, but even so it's worthwhile knowing how bad the system can sometimes be. I'm not phased by much, but this whole process is something you seriously don't want to underestimate.
You HAVE to be super-resilient and don't take no for an answer, don't be intimidated and above all don't be fobbed off.

THE LETTER is here. I daren't open it.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 10/08/2020 13:14

He's got it. Feeling a bit trembly. Till May 22. That'll do Pig.

Punxsutawney · 10/08/2020 13:24

That's great news Dont, one less thing to worry about!

Punxsutawney · 10/08/2020 13:48

Thanks for the info Blank, will look back over those threads. I've held off with it because we were doing the EHCNA application but quite honestly I've probably been avoiding it too. I really do need to get on with it now.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 10/08/2020 14:05

Cheers @Punxsutawney. It is huge weight lifted. In the year waiting for appeal I'd kind of put it to the back of my mind. We recently moved and it was on my list of things to do. Rootle all the paperwork out etc. But I really struggled to bring myself to face it. Anything benefit related brings me out in a cold sweat. But this year we managed to get ourselves in a better position. We managed to move to a cheaper secure house so I don't dream about finding ourselves back my tiny bedsit I used to live in pre child! I have started working for the first time in 16 years so I don't faint with fear every time a brown DWP envelope came through the door. Getting the original decision that DS scored 0 points was a real low time. It basically said that all the support I give ds Wasa big fat nothing. Now my support feels validated. I can concentrate on him. Support him to overcome his issues where I can. SmileSmileSmile
