Education and other possibilities post 18 for DS with ASD

I'd be grateful for any comments or advice as our DS is 18 this month and possibly finishing sixth form in June.

He attended primary and secondary schools, and 'sixth form', in dedicated units with one to one support, some attendance to main stream(with full support) but this was dependent on his skills eg he can do maths and practical subjects but not understand English or geography.

Current course is an art course, nice and practical but we've been told even if we can get another year funded, year 2 would be too advanced for him.( he did an independent living course in lower sixth)

The college say the Learning Support unit (separate to thr current unit)may offer a course however we don't yet have confirmation of the level of supervision given- DS cannot be left to his own devices or allowed to wander.

Recent meeting with college and the careers service was left that the college would check supervision possibilities with the Learning support unit. The careers service gave no useful comment, just that we should contact Social services.( we've tried they never ring back)

We are in Wales. We would like him in education longer or in very supported circumstances for some course or activity. Would I be right in thinking SS would help if we can get them to do some kind of assessment? What other avenues can I explore? Thanks in advance.
