Asd and periods at night

My dd has just had her first period and did fine during the day, brilliantly considering she has spd and severe asd. It’s nights we are having a problem with. She won’t wear underwear or pads at all, Tampons are not going to be possible for her.
I’ve tried everything I can think of this week and it’s causing me to get annoyed with her now which isn’t helping the situation. Is there anything she can use that would mean I’m not washing sheets every day!?

Google for waterproof mattress covers and disposable Incontinence Bed Pads and see if you think they might work. In theory it should stop you doing so much washing.

Something to consider, some types of mini-pill stop periods altogether, perhaps discuss it with your GP.

Thank you I’ve looked at disposable bed pads I think they might work, we already have a waterproof sheet. I was washing that daily last week too! I hadn’t thought of approaching the G.P. about it but think because of her age they wouldn’t offer the mini pill (she’s only 9!)

How about the period underwear?
I have a dd with sensory issues who recently started her period. I wasn't sure she would tolerate pads so was thinking about Thinx or other brands but we are a few months in and she is managing ok.

Just had a quick Google and there are several brands. Not sure there will be any suitable size for a 9 year old but worth a look.

Unfortunately she won’t wear underwear at night either otherwise period pants would be great

I can sympathize. I know with dd if she feels uncomfortable she cannot cope with the feeling and gets incredibly stressed.
My dd is getting to the stage that she feels she needs a proper bra but she just can't tolerate them at all. She's still in very basic soft crop tops but they don't give her much support for sport

Would a Mooncup work at all OP? I can't think of any other options sadly6

DD is 13. She was prescribed Tranexamic Acid by our GP. Hers are really heavy and prolonged. It lightens the flow.

Try your gp, my friends dd was put on long term contraception to prevent periods until she was 12 and could cope better. Luckily my dd was 15 when she started but she still hated pads so I bought her those washable absorbent pants. She does wear them at night at least

Modibodi do leggings (they make period pants the leggings at for exercise, would she tolerate that as pj bottoms?

www.modibodi.co.uk

Or the short style pants?

These cost an absolute fortune and would be messy www.eric.org.uk/shop/pjama-pyjama-bedwetting-pants

9, bless her. I think GP would be a good call.

Dd was 10 when she started and it has been a bit of a nightmare, she’s now 13 and will wear a pad at night and adult nappies in bad nights, GP put her on mini pill when she was 11 but it made her bleed non stop.

A different approach here but would she respond to a social story about why she needs to wear knickers at night when it's her period? Appreciate that if it's a sensory issue this may not be appropriate
