Sixth Form / Further Education Support for HFA

So we have been looking for a placement for ds1 (HFA) for sixth form as his current (specialist school for HFA) school say would be unlikely to be able to meet academic needs for sixth form. Saw quite a nice further education college yesterday but am pretty clueless as to what type of support to ask for or what could be given in this environment. It seems such an enormous leap from a tiny, very sheltered environment (thirty pupils) to a college where there are 3000 pupils on roll although much smaller in the A level centre which is where he would want to go. His main issues are anxiety rather than academic and he has already said having a TA in the classroom with him would probably increase his anxiety rather than reduce it. Any suggestions welcome for what has worked or even, not worked, for your child at sixth form.

Does your son have an EHCP?

Is studying A Levels at home an option or do you think he needs to be with other students?

Interhigh does A Levels where you study in a real time online classroom.

Why do people start threads and then not come back to them?

Basically because I started this thread in October and did not get any replies for two months so forgot about it! Yes, he has an EHCP. Online is my backup option if mainstream goes belly up but not my preferred choice as he wants contact with people his own age not unreasonably. Plus home educating his db has not been an amazing success so am dubious about doing this for him too.

@OneInEight Just seen you've come back!

Our son goes to Farleigh FE College, a day and residential college for students aged 16-25 on the autistic spectrum.

They do GCSEs and A levels, and support students on courses at partner mainstream FE colleges. Our son is in his third year there, has made fantastic progress and is very happy.
