Finding good supported living for your dependent young adult

Anyone else feeling desperate about what it is out there for our young adults....I am the mum of an almost 24 year old son with complex needs....cerebral palsy...would love to settle him in a suitable place before I get too old and it’s an emergency situation....hoping to gain some info on here....it’s my first time posting.

My daughter is 20 and we plan to start looking. We would like her to move into the adult supported living at the college she attends when her course finishes in 2 years. I think standards vary hugely depending on area and of course local social services here will want the least expensive provision. We have two organisations, Together Trust and Independent Options that do manage supported living in individual households that I can think of.

Have you started looking? Any advice from your son's social worker?

Your son's social worker needs to start looking and assessments need to be done. I am experiencing similar difficulties with my 19 year old son, even though he is in a sheltered living environment.

My daughter doesn't have a named social worker, it is just a pool of staff. Any tips from people who have recently been through this process?

My son was due to start residential college in September. He’s 19. At the last minute funding was denied and the complex case panel state they are planning to cease his EHCP. We have a solicitor ready to appeal but we are looking at about 20k to do so and a long long process. Now we are thinking maybe supported living with day services may be a better long term solution. So hard to know where to start . I’m devastated the funding was denied and now he’s at home 24/7 which is awful as he’s very difficult. We have no social worker as he’s 100% CHC funded. He has a case manager but they only really deal with the money. I can’t think straight at the moment 🙁

We went down this route a year ago. We decided on a home setting as apposed to supported living as it suited her better.
It is hard, but can i suggest you look at every option, even just to rule them out.

What are your plans for the future? Have you looked at all of the options? Is there a social worker or not? If so you should definitely ask her to get the ball rolling on the assessment process immediately. Is he at college or not? Get a second opinion. Also I recommend asking if the college can help you figure out what to do. My college provided some accommodation for interested students.
It’s worth finding out about it. Otherwise any funding will magically disappear. Last week my son’s disability funding seemed to essentially dry up. We are currently appealing the decision. My son’s social worker is not impressed. His needs are not significant but they do exist. We used his funding to cover the cost of holidays and any medical supplies he was needing. The report that came in the mail was full of inaccuracies. I highlighted them all.
Otherwise I was paying for it with my savings and my salary.

I realise this thread is not terribly current, just qwant to join you as in a similar position and struggling to see way forward.
