Summer holiday lonliness

My daughter, 16, finds it extremely hard to keep in contact with friends from her school during the holidays. She attends a Special Needs school which she enjoys very much. However, she finds it hard watching her older sister have the freedom to see her friends regularly and spontaneously.

I was curious as to whether there were any schemes, clubs or groups which she could attend, to socialise with other special needed children to help her socialise like any other 16 year old girl would love to. She has got skype and texts her school friends occasionally, however, due to the communication difficulties, it is hard to orgainse anything.

Have any other parents suffered with this issue?

The herts/beds/bucks area is ideal

Hi, why don't you check your local authority website? They will have a directory of all the clubs and activities directed to young people with disabilities.
The Bunyan Centre in Bedford has a sports club for young people with disabilities and their siblings. Check bedford Borough council website for more details.
