My dd is 13, developmentally delayed with language learning difficulties and dyscalculia and having problems socially. We are living overseas so the system is not the same here but I don't know what type of therapy I should be looking for.
To explain a bit more, dd is being teased and bullied at school. We have contacted school and they have spoken to her class but it keeps recurring. Whilst I believe that the children doing the bullying could use some support/education, the only way I can see to improve things myself is to help my dd with her behaviour.
She seems to be a natural victim. When she is happy, she goes too far and gets giddy. If things don't go well, she will storm off in a huff and/or cry. School have said that she won't do as she is asked in class and that the other kids don't want to work with her. Nobody wants her on their team. Nobody wants to play with her. My heart breaks for her. She needs to find friends at school as kids outside of school are all so much more advanced and leave her behind, even though she always tries to make friends with kids younger than herself.
Last night she was sobbing and saying that she wanted to run away from school. Apart from feeling awful for her, we do need her to take herself to school.
So, I would like to find someone who could work with her on her behaviour and social skills. Can anybody tell me what type of therapist would be best for that?
Thank you for any suggestions!
