DS is 13 and is going through one of his really struggling phases at the moment. He finds the social interaction at school so hard and he is in one of his downward spirals of despair.

He is naturally very negative about life. He reminds me of Eeyore. If there is a bleak, gloomy side to something that is what he will see.

He is extremely stressy & a worrier.

He has paranoid tendencies.

He is very black & white & either likes something or someone or hates it / them.

He is at a special school and I am fairly confident that they handle him & his issues well. However, when he gets in one of these downward funks, it is awful. Everything is wrong, he hates everything & everyone, his friends distance themselves from him because he is so unbearable, which just confirms in his mind that everyone hates him. The teachers find him even harder to cope with, so he gets told off more, again confirming in his mind that he is hated by everyone. It is a nightmare.

Any thoughts for how I tackle this? How can I give him coping skills for when he gets like this. These downward funks can last an entire term & he is miserable. Is it worth going back to the GP about this? Is it depression?

HELP!!!!

Hi, I have no advice really but it does sound like he might be depressedSad

This board is really quiet, you could try reposting in the special needs children section as it is much busier.

There are quite a few folks over there with teenagersSmile
