Aspergers teen and police interview - sorry, a bit long.

Hi - I have been asked to post this by a friend (yes, I know it's a cliche, but it's true!).

Her son is 14 and has a diagnosis of Aspergers. According to a behavioural specialist he is seeing, he fits a lot of the test criteria for ADHD too.

A couple of months ago it seems that a group of boys, including her son, were messing around near/on a car, and that car was damaged. The owner of the car has only just reported this to the police, who have investigated and it seems that all the other boys are claiming that her son was the culprit. However, he says that whilst he did lay on the roof of the car, he was not responsible for the damage in question (it's in a different place to where he laid). His story has been corroborated by a neighbour's child, but this child will not tell this to the police as his parents are friendly with the parents of the actual culprit.

The police officer who visited my friend has told her that she has to take him to the station on Saturday to give a video interview, and that the best thing they could do is to get him to admit it and take a caution. This would apparently then preclude the owner of the car pursuing my friend through the small claims court for the damage (?).

Does anyone have any experience of Aspergers teens and police interviews? Does anyone have any advice for her regarding whether to get him to take the caution?

Thanks in advance for any and all help. She's beside herself with worry.
