Sister Autism Coughs till shes sick

My sister is severely Autistic, she has like a chesty cough but becasue she doesnt clear her throat she really barks and makes hersefl sick sometimes.

mum took her to the doctors but they wouldn't give her antibiotics they said her chest was clear which is a bit never mind

any meds or cough syrups that may help shes a bit like a kid so she probs would take horrible tasting medicine IYSWIM.

It may be a repetitive behaviour, my DS does this. He starts often with a short, normal cough and then really gets going, coughing his guts up, although he hasn't made himself sick this way. What works for us is fairly simple, we just tell him to stop coughing, he stops and grins. If that won't work then maybe you need to have a picture she recognises to represent coughing with a cross through it or some other method to get her to stop, maybe offer her a drink or something. I hope others will have more useful advice.
