is there a connection between aspergers and epilepsy

school think ds2 has a problem, maybe aspergers. he has already been diagnosed with absence seizures although if you didnt know you might not notice as they are mild.

i am fairly sceptical that he actually has a problem at all but would like to know if and what is the connection between epilepsy and aspergers.

Our DD started with severe epiplepsy when she was 6yrs old & once it was better managed with medication our next worry was her LD. She is 14 now & a couple of years ago got a dianosis of ASD.
Her neurologist said that a significant percentage of kids with LD have seizures - that's born out now DD is at special school for kids with communication diffs + ASD as loads of her peers have seizures of one type or another. The neurologist said it's a 'triangle' with one corner being the ASD/LD, one corner the epilepsy & the 3rd corner being the cause which for most people remains a mystery. We've gotten over the need to find a cause & just focus on enjoying life as best our family can - the epilepsy/ASD are part of who DD is & we accept her as she is. Good luck!

There is no link between Aspergers and epilepsy but many Aspergers children have these episodes of 'tuning out' when they become sensory-overloaded and they appear to 'freeze' for a few momments. It's like a hiccup in the processing of events and they have to pause for a second to too to enable to take it al in. My Ds would actually stop walking if it happened when we were out.

His episdoes were noticed by a Nurse who initially thought they may be petit mal and referred him for an MRI scan. It was negative. These sort of episodes (they are not seixures0 are described in Tony Attwood's book on Aspergers.
