Pre-teen with Tourette Syndrome

Hi, just want to know if there is anyone out there who has a child with Tourette Syndrome? My daughter is 12, and was diagnosed at the beginning of this year. Her tics are mainly vocal although she has a few motor tics as well. She feels alone, as none of her friends have it and gets really upset about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sharron

Hi Sharron - sorry don't have much knowledge about tourettes but just wanted to suggest you repost on the SN children section as you will be more likely to get a response there. Many of the mums there also have older children.

I realise it's been ages since you posted. But my daughter is 12years ( I guess yours is about 14) and developed Tourette's at the beginning of this year. In public she manages well (on medication), but she tics fairly often at home and her brothers don't always understand. She won't go to the local support group for fear of sparking off more tics, and I think she's a little in denial.
It is such an unusual illness and I think it's taken us a long time to get to grips with it
