Asd and school residential trips

Anyone have a child with asd that has gone on a school residential?

Did it go ok?

dc very routine based, masks a lot at school, doesn't do well unless prepared for everything including what's to eat. Biggest worry currently (in my mind) is that if we take him on holiday then he is up to the early hours for the first 3 days minimum and that's with all the scaffolding we can do.

My DD did cope on a 3n residential aged 10 and at MS school at the time. She got very upset the first night and a teacher took her back to the 6 bed dorm early to have a quiet hour to reset herself. She did enjoy most of it and got through it but was utterly beyond exhausted when she got got home. All kids cope differently so I’d have a chat with the teacher going, I’d submit your concerns or his key needs in writing to ensure audit trail. My nephew also ASD went on his and my sister stayed in a hotel near by in case he needed to be taken out over night and rejoin for the activities. This was her choice.

Before DS3 moved to EOTIS, he went on residential trips with schools. We put a lot of preparation into preparing him (what would happen, when, who, photographs, etc.) and the school (what to do when, what support he would need, etc.). His 1:1 went with him. The trips weren’t without bumps, but went well overall.

DS2 has also been on residential trips successfully but his needs aren’t a complex.

How old are they @Namechangingagain12345? DD managed 3 nights in Y6 with a weekend before going back into school.
