Private SALT

Evening all,
Just wondered if any of you peeps with speech delayed ASD children went down the Private Salt route and was it effective?
My DS is 4 and his provision has been drastically reduced. Fighting this obviously but meanwhile am thinking about paying for some private sessions. Any advice?

That sounds positive. In what way have they helped?

yes, was well worth it. private SALt was more experienced and knowledgable than many of the NHS SALT, and provided more individualised advice/resources. ~Also it's nice to feel in control of the process to a degree, rather than grateful for what gets provided on NHS.

good point totalchaos.
Think I will go for it.

about 5 or 6 visits over about 14 months. couldn't afford weekly or anything like. but advanage of going private is that they can be flexible like that iyswim.

Our private SALT is brilliant. Worth every penny and I'm glad we went for it. I didn't want my boy to reach 10 and think 'if only we'd done x,y or z'

He's thorough, understanding of ASD and has got my boy talking.

Now we have SALT as part of a statement and since the LEA/NHS are so woefully short of SALT therapists they now pay our SALT to cover the provision. Was a long battle though.

Ds was banging his head in frustation and having terrible tantrums ( hours) at 3 and got no nhs salt due to not having enough language. I found a private salt with asd/sn experience who assessed ds and basically taught me what to do in between sessions ( finances restricted how often we could go) It was the best money I ever spent. How did it help? It taught me how to break things down into tiny tiny bits, how to get ds to want to cooperate and interact and hear (listen) - all the prelanguage skills. She set me up with little fun things that specifically tailored to ds intersts (like popup pirate game to learn to turn take, like magnetic fishing to learn to listen to instructions (catch the small blue fish!) Basically it supported me in doing what needed to be done for ds at the time.

This all sounds positive.Seeing a private SALT next month for my dd2,who is completely non verbal,as the NHS SALT she gets is minimal.
Hoping for better things

How much is a private SALT if you dont mind me asking.
Also, can you have a private SALT at the same time as NHS input (DS supposedly has a SALT at nursery but only gets input with 10 other kids so doubt it is effective.

3 years ago was £50 per hour. private SALT fitted us in when she was local to us, so no travel time charged. and yes, fine to have private input at same time as NHS.
