I have just called to complain about a report from the Ed Psych and been told the LEA have agreed to SA and ds will be on band C funding in Sept...They will be going for a statement too.

What does this mean? i am clue-less

wasuup

Absolutely bloody awful; some children will be failed here as a result of their short sighted policies. As mentioned IPSEA need to be told; this organisation has clout and they do get govt to take action against unlawful LEA's.

I have just got a note in lieu and ESAP from Lancs as my 6 year old has dyspraxia but we have not yet got a firm ASD diagnosis - CAMHs who the LEA never bothered contacting despite my request for them to do so are scoring my sons ADOS test presently and are getting back to me in the next few days.

wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 20:05

Oh and I had to go through the SENDIST refusal to assess route before the LEA backed down because my son is also on the schools gifted and talented register.

wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 20:06

Attila Lancs have a policy on academic ability if a child is not on or below 1st percentile they refuse to statement.

wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 20:06

or stat assess...

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/07/2010 20:16

Blanket policies are illegal in law. They know the law, they have no excuse.

wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 20:23

I know I got a private OT report for the tribunal that placed my son on the 1st percentile for his dyspraxia which is why I think they backed down because my son then met the LEAs criteria. My daughter has a statement of SEN but that was straight forward as she was on 0.1 percentile for her numeracy and has SLCN as well but even so I had to challenge the proposed statement to get anywhere near the correct provision using case law from IPSEA.

wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 20:25

The SEN Officer said to me I can see you have done your research in Educational Law, yet seems to think I am going to accept a note in lieu for my son and some ESAP funding.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/07/2010 20:29

I'd be politely telling that case officer to stick his potential ESAP funding where the sun does not shine. The less said about a note in lieu the better; toilet paper is more useful.

wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 20:34

Exactly Atila even if my son doesn't get the ASD diagnosis that he is being assessed for. (Son also has immediate recall difficulties) Hes back in the office after a holiday on Wednesday when after hes had emails of me (still need speech therapy amendments on my daughters final statement too) he will be wishing he was still on holiday.

pucca · 10/07/2010 21:05

My ds starts reception in Sept, that is what the funding is for.

Can you talk to the SENCo at the school your child is going to and find out what the banding will cover in the way of support and if the school will top it up until you have a statement?

pucca · 10/07/2010 21:15

Wasuup3000...Yes will try and have a chat with her next week, the SENCO is the school's HT.

Where about in Lancs are you? I have just had a private OT report too, through Shine Therapy in Preston. I don't have the report yet though.

OP posts:
wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 21:18

I am in East Lancs. What did the OT say was she good?

pucca · 10/07/2010 21:24

Yes she seems fab, specialist in Sensory Integration (ds has lots of sensory issues) although i was a bit at the fact the SENCO/HT and Pre-school manager said it was a waste of time and her report wouldn't help with the education side. (utter crap, i rang the LEA).

The SENCO/HT told me it was a complete waste of money as would a private SALT be (thinking of doing this too).

I also have issues with the latest Ed Psych report, who said that ds continues to have blocks of speech therapy (he has been assessed each time, thats all) and that he is a "happy sociable, emotionally secure little boy who is developing a lovely sense of humour"....WTF?! So far from the truth it is unreal.

wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 21:35

Which part of lancs are you in? I may need to get another OT privately to look at sensory integration for appealing against this notice of lieu (even the headteacher has written that my son sometimes plays alone and talks to himself) as they have stopped the NHS OT sensory integration programme here. I may get a private EP report too..

pucca · 10/07/2010 21:39

I am in Preston, here is a link

here

The OT is lovely, very supportive, and really knows her stuff.

wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 21:41

Thanks Pucca! Which EP is it that you have? We had a right %(%&%$ but he moved to Preston thankfully name of YP?

pucca · 10/07/2010 21:46

No this EP is a woman, last name Williamson. Think they all pretty much the same unfortunately!

I may look into a private EP as well.

OP posts:
pucca · 10/07/2010 21:51

Also i found out that apparently there are no NHS OT's in Lancs that specialise in Sensory Integration, quite rare to come across one with proper experience and training.

OP posts:
wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 21:51

Yes I think so think YP is or was the EP area manager for your area he is the worst EP I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

We used to have Lesley Carr who seemed really good she has retired and has gone private now.

wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 21:55

The OT manager in Accy did run a SI programme but funding has been cut and staff have left and not been replaced so she had to close the programme.

pucca · 10/07/2010 22:15

It is a complete nightmare isn't it?

I am also seriously starting to believe that NHS "professionals" are just interested in saving money for the system and that going private is the only way for an accurate diagnosis/assessment.

OP posts:
wasuup3000 · 10/07/2010 22:17

I agree with that.
