I am speechless

Organisation 1
Student Planner 1
Uniform 1
Attitude 1
1=Excellent, always exceeds expectations
In English DD is able to use a wide range of punctuation, sentence structures and paragraphs accurately. Some lessons are difficult for DD to access properly because of her recent eye problem, but additional resources such as her iPod are a tremendous aid.
In Mathematics and Science DD is working above her target and is progressing nicely, her behaviour and attitude is excellent but DD must try to contribute more in lessons in order to improve.
In Spanish & French DD?s recent problems have effected (sic) her work, continues to work hard and her oral skills are progressing well, DD is a pleasure to teach & she inspires her fellow students.
In Technology & art DD always tries her best and has produced some good work, if she continues to stay focused she has the ability to reach a high level.
In Geography & History DD is a friendly member of the group who displays considerable interest in the subject and participate in work with enthusiasm, for DD to improve she must explain points made by her providing more detail in her answers.
DD has made excellent progress in Music, despite her medical difficulties. She has excellent aural skills and she picks up musical patterns incredibly quickly. DD has already reached her year 7 target and I am confident she will continue to do well.
In IT DD has good skill and knowledge of Powerpoint and produces good work, to improve she must listen to constructive criticism.
In PE & RE DD is progressing well and must continue to work hard, she needs to contribute more to class in order to improve.
Overall a very good report for DD, she has been amazing this year, she has coped with her sight and never once complained. DD is an inspiration to pupils in the school, keep up the good work DD and well done.
Active Citizenship Comment: DD is a valued & popular member of the group. She works hard and is willing to help.
Year Head: Congratulations on over coming all the odds this year DD. Your work ethic and achievements in class are commendable under the stress you have been under this year. No matter what the future holds, if you maintain the resolve you have shown, you will always do well.

Can I just ask (sorry to keep going on about it) - but does that sound like the report of a child in the middle of a psychological episode?

KatyMac · 07/07/2010 22:28

We are so going out at the weekend

What a great report. definitely deserves a treat a for that (and your dd does too! )

teamcullenIsaGleek · 07/07/2010 22:56

well done

KatyMac · 07/07/2010 23:09

It doesn't 'fit' tho' does it?

OP posts:
DryYourEyesMate · 07/07/2010 23:15

I agree it doesnt fit

Are the school trying to help without coming into direct conflict with the professionals already involved?

Its hard when you are second guessing people but its not screaming at me as a child with any psychological issues

Im not too up on the back story though so I may be very wide off the mark

Best of luck and be VERY proud of DD

TheCrunchyside · 07/07/2010 23:18

Katymac - I struggle to think that this problem is psychological. I've never heard anything like it.

But children with pyschological problems can do well at school. Anorexics for example may be very good and conscientious students driven by perfectionism (sorry for the sweeping generalisation here).

KatyMac · 07/07/2010 23:21

That is interesting Thecrunchyside - I didn't know that about anorexics ; that makes this more plausible then

OP posts:
TheCrunchyside · 07/07/2010 23:27

Don't take that info too seriously twas from a documentary on channel 4!

KatyMac · 07/07/2010 23:29

But to go from unfailingly average to working outside her year group is odd after something so traumatic happening

OP posts:
TheCrunchyside · 07/07/2010 23:39

It is indeed odd but it is brilliant and will give your dd a big boost of confidence

KatyMac · 08/07/2010 06:57

She seems very accepting of it - not very excited

Sounds wonderful and you should be proud. But tbh I would not on its own take this as proof that your dd is not also suffering from emotional problems.

My dd got similar reports at a time when she was also cutting herself and having all sorts of probably psychological symptoms (on top of her physical condition). In fact, every single report of hers stresses her cheerful willing positive attitude. And I have known anorexics who have been very similar.

The crucial bit is the head's comment at the end: "No matter what the future holds, if you maintain the resolve you have shown, you will always do well". That is so true, and you need to hold onto that!

Doing well whilst suffering is hard, but suffering and doing badly is an awful lot worse. And one thing that does stand out to me is that your dd is not letting this affect her attitude towards other people. It is not spilling out in bitterness, she is not getting isolated- that is very very important.

KatyMac · 08/07/2010 08:10

I'm starting to understand that

Oh life is odd isn't it

OP posts:
KatyMac · 08/07/2010 20:06

Still massively proud

LollipopViolet · 08/07/2010 22:08

Katy, that's awesome As others have said, it's a credit to your DD's attitude through a very tough time, well done her!

piddlepaddle · 09/07/2010 00:08

You should be proud of her

The thing about anorexics is true. They tend to be high-achieving females (it's rife in highly academic girls' schools).

(Have namechanged) I was a self-harmer as a teenager and my report would have looked similar. No one would have guessed the psychological undercurrents.

However, I would still follow up any other possiblities that might be behind your daughter's issues, including the possibily that it might be purely medical (I'm not sure what tests have already been done, sorry). But I've heard of physical problems dismissed as psychosomatic which could have been dealt with sooner and more simply if it had been investigated more thoroughly.

SanctiMoanyArse · 09/07/2010 00:50

Absolutely Piddle

In fact, I freely admit to eating disorders at school and ds1 was officially accepted today for treatment for his. We are both eprfectionists who reallys truggle to allow ourselves any breathing rooma round failure.

Indeed, I have had the odd panic attack that ahs manifested as the loss of eyesight. Brief enough, but in a supermarket it was incredibly scary. It coincided with taking on a ahuge wemotional burden suddenly (whilst still delaing with all the eating issues a teen I know chose me as ehr safe person to disclose abuse, and at 19 I was rocketed into temporary foster mother territory with all the stuff around that- I effectively acquired a DD 5 years younger than me suddenly, albeit for a short time as my housing wasn't great)

So Katy I can see your dd and the report matching up from my experiences

But I honestly belvie that you know your DD best adn you should follow your own gut wrt to what's happening for her

Eithert way, she is one amazing girl

KatyMac · 09/07/2010 06:06

I've got to be open to all the options really - I can't fixate on one aspect
