Has anyone had one of these? Apparently the paediatrician is very well thought of and experienced although it occured to me that like all clinic appointments we may well not get her but someone who works for her.

I am sorry to post and run but wondered if anyone had any ideas about whether I need to prepare for this? I have also got an interview tomorrow so in a bit of a flap about it all. DD has s and l delay and concentration issues, no diagnosis yet. Also she has a genetic condition which only afects her medically (ie shouldnt affect her development) and glue ear. Iam just worried we will be givent he whole wait and see thing again. DD is 3.10. Any advice greatly appreciated! Even if it is just to say just respond to her questions and stop over thinking it!

only advice i can think of is to write down everything you can think of that may be relevent like age at first word? did she babble? family history of anything similar? what she can say/sound? and any questions you have. then try not to worry a you wont forget anything as its all written down!! dont do what i do though and leave it at home and forget what i wrote! put it in your bag or in the car or whatever as soon as you have written it!!!!

they will probably want to know all her history from in utero onwards, milestones and all. also I imagine you would want to cover all bases in terms of DD's life - so eating/behaviour/sleep/toileting/how she behaves going out, in groups, with her peers/how she plays etc/motor skills

hopefully the paed will ask all this anyway but make a brief bullet point list of what you would want covered

Thank you both that is good advice. I hope I can remember everything. am struggling to be clear on what I feel the issues are but I think, as her salt confirmed today that her s and l and concentration are the main issues. Her play is behind think and it is so hard to know about understanding with such limited language. I think I need to really bring home that she is not able to fully cope at playgroup as things stand.

Just writing this down on here is helpiing me to focus!

Iremember all the family history, in utero info etc from when she was diagnosed with her condition it was quite upsetting Ihope they have people on hand to distract dd like they do in endocrine clinic because xp is unable to come tomorrow.

Had appointment this morning. I have to wait for the forms to be done to get the proper report but she said profound speech and language difficulties with probable underlying learning difficulties related to her condition.

This is odd because had beeen told thatlearning difficultes are not associated with her condition but this paediatrician said that her consultant says it is linked. Hmm.

Anyway so the local SENIT is being requested to work with us whatever that means? And DD's psychologist if she agrees. I am quite shocked by the underlying learning difficulties tbh. Ad feel like going to bed and not getting up till everyting is sorted! Tomorrow her playgroup worker wants a chat and Iam dreading it. Yuck. Then have dla forms to do!

Just wanted to say know how you feel, You just feel like your always seeing someone and listening to what they say but not really understanding it.
I cant stand filling in all the forms too,so yes it would be good to go to bed and it would be sorted in the morning.
My dd is 4.3 so we are trying to find the right school at the moment driving me mad!

hope you are OK used2bthin, I imagine you must be very upset about this bombshell about associated learning difficulties. I have no idea what SENIT is I am afraid.

used2bthin · 07/07/2010 21:33

thank you both. donutbrain the chool thing is so stressful.

pparently the SENIT will help me to decide about schools and make sure she gets what she needs support wise whilst at pre school too. Just looked it up on the local council website.

Total chaos yes I am but will be ok tomorrow no doubt , just confused about th whole who is right thing with the condition.
