DS (has aspergers, dyslexia) has gone away for the weekend with a friend. he is 18. he has gone away to a computer festival type thing in Scotland at a university (i think its called Geek Con!) he is travelling from yorkshire by train.(he will have to make 3 different changes...!) he is going with another lad, who is 19, who is a black belt in martial arts but who also has aspergers. he has made all his own travel arrangements and booked a guest house.

i am being very brave on the outside. i will keep busy and he has promised to text on arrival and phone me tonight.

would anyone like to tell me i am worrying for nowt and he will be ok, and that i have to let him do these things....i know im fussing. i hope to god he remembers to buy some soap and toothpaste....

is all I can really say.

Well done him, and you, can't have been easy.

I've got to do a daily commute to Manchester for 2 weeks next month. I've been to Manchester a fair few times now but I'm still having a wobble about it! It's for work experience and I want to make a good impression. Only, the lady emailed me back and said I MAY need to run errands for them.

I don't know Manchester city centre THAT well! Aaaargh and my sight doesn't help, if there's no landmarks to go by I can get totally LOST!

hes home!

Glad he's home safe and had a good time, and well done you for surviving the worry!

ThatVikRinA22 · 05/07/2010 22:26

he has announced that he has taken on a project for the owner of the bed and breakfast that he stayed in - he is doing some programming thingy for their website so says he may need to go back up for a weekend - though he says they said he could stay for free! lol! he is a very good little programmer. he has a part time job now in programming. his boss has told him he is taking him to Vegas in january so im using this little jaunt as a warm up!

we'll see what transpires. i really dont know why i worry about him at all.

That sounds absolutely fantastic, Vicar. You must be (rightfully) immensely proud of him. Well done you for raising him to be such a fine young man!!

ThatVikRinA22 · 07/07/2010 23:37

Was it opened and used, or bought in the shop on the way home?

ThatVikRinA22 · 08/07/2010 11:13

i never thought of that! still - shows ingenuity if nothing else!

my advice would be save the stressing! i used to worry so much about my lad, really, i exhausted myself. they turn out ok in the end. i would have worried less had i known what the future held.

but of course now i worry about a different set of things that in 10 years i will wonder why i worried about!

im gla dhe enjoyed it and not just enjoyed it found something els ehe can do

ThatVikRinA22 · 09/07/2010 11:29

well he has got some work from it.

the owners of the B&B he stayed in would like him to do a website and a booking system for them and he has also just earned some money from a bloke in America who needed some programming work doing.

he keeps finding these little odd jobs.

what a lovely thread to read

i would have been a nervous wreck and prob of stalked him there and back!

it is so nice to hear news like this, at the moment ds1 is 9 and ds2 is 3 both ASD and the thought of them going to the paper shop when older scares the crap out of me!

Good for you and well done to your son i bet you are so proud of him
