hi, my dd has been invited to a birthday party for a little boy (will be 5)that has downs. i was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to buy/ what not to buy.
obviously i would like to get something that the little boy will like and am worried that anything i choose would either be too old/young.

Maybe have chat with mum see if there is anything her little boy is on to ,little girl in ds class has down syndrome
e but was pretty much on par with all the other girls

I would say buy pretty much what you would for any 5 year old boy

thanks for answering roundthebend4 - all of the other boys have had ben10 stuff, which is full of tiny little bits - i was worried about the safety aspect of it. i really don't have any experience of downs tbh, i don't want to get something that his mum will have to take away.
unfortunately i never see his mum, he leaves school earlier than the other kids, so i can't even ask.

get a nice book! no safety issues, and if it's a bit advanced for him language wise then parents can always simplify the language. and hey, if it's not particularly useful, at least it will take up little space and not involve noises and batteries!

If he is in a mainstream school there will be tiny bits and pieces, scissors etc all over the place so i wouldn't worry on that account.buy the same as you would for any other child

Ah ben 10 see ds could not give a fig for it,

Ben 10 sticker book or how about iloom balloons? My 5-year-old DD loves these and I recently gave a pack to a 9-year-old boy for his birthday and they were a great success! They come in packs of 5 and have an LED inside them so glow - when it's dark it's like playing catch with a moon (apparently!).

Hotwheels or Matchbox car multipacks are our default gift for little boys. Most of them are quite tough, even faced with my two boys who play with them pretty roughly and chew stuff.

This time of year garden stuff is always good - Water pistols, garden play sets, frisbees, sprinkler thingy's etc
