Good to know you've got the tandem KatyMac! I hope she enjoys it.

It's nice to know she can keep dancing too.

She's lucky to have such a supportive mum.

I second Al1son - what a great mam you are. Enjoy the tandem!

My brother is well happy (I think he wants to buy it off me)

Aww katymac you're doing great in the face of all this. Your DD has an ace mum by the sounds of it. Great to know she can keep up the dancing too.

Happy tandeming KTM and DD.

Have you tandemed before? or has your DB. Its fun. As a stoker ( the one at teh back)I do like to be kept informed about what up ahead, even a sighted stoker has very little idea of what in front of teh captain, so do keep talking / shouting back to DD, its kinda scary when you have a truck woosh by that you didn't know was coming.

Your DD should be old enough/ tall enough for your team to do normal starts and mounts, takes a little practise to get a smooth start as a new tandem team.

Another thing I'll pass on as a stoker - sorry if teaching granny to suck eggs. Toe clips are good for stokers, they stop gear changes throwing your feet of teh pedals cos you were not expecting the pedalling cadence to change just then...

Oh

Umm

I thought it was just like riding a bike

DH is slightly too big for it & DD slightly too small for hers - but my Brother (bike mechanic) reckons that is the best way round as DD will grow

I don't do bikes - sciatica, arthritis etc

Toe clips

I had no idea tandeming was so complicated!

KatyMac · 30/06/2010 22:33

The very nice man is delivering it on Saturday

Should I make fudge or cakes for him?

Al1son · 30/06/2010 22:41

Both - then you can eat what he doesn't!

KatyMac · 30/06/2010 22:42

dd & DH approve

Yep- get the saddle heights sorted and let them try it out. toe clips don;t have to be teh scary strap your self in ones, half depth clips like these strapless ones do just fine www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Zefal_Toe_Clips/5360043683/ .
some stokers don;t bother, but I HATE "losing" my pedals and if DD can't glance down to get them back she'll get bruised calfs.

bicyclingblind.org/captain_hub/tutorial looks like a good place to get your DH to read BEFORE he takes DD out, so he doesn't scare her silly first time out.
Even just riding it on his own will help if you don't know any other tandem owners.

It took DH and I 3 rides of about 5 miles before we were confident we knew what we were doing and could start with out wobbling all over the shop. Now we have changed the set up and put DS on as stoker with either of us captaining.

Thanks for that

Great info
