does it come in medicine form?

Asked Dr for medicine, as i wont be able to get ds to swallow a tablet. Prescription arrived today, with a note saying it only comes in tablet form.

Its 3mg dose, does that sound about right for a 6 year old?

This might help. Seems you can crush bio-melatonin!

Had a little Google and agree with Ampersand44, it should be fine to crush

You're very welcome Claw3

My dd will be Melatonin free from tomorrow for 7 weeks, our summer hols start at 12 tomorrow. Help

Ampersand44 · 01/07/2010 21:15

Very happy to help Claw3.

Have you tried it tonight?

claw3 · 01/07/2010 22:38

Wow ds just swallow it! (i told him he could have a mouthful of coke to help wash it down, after he had swallow with water)

Gave it to him at 10, he was in bed asleep by 10.25!

He started to rub his eyes about 15 minutes after taking it and got very stroppy, this is very unlike ds, he is normally so passive. Is this common?

or perhaps stroppy where he felt very tired? (he usually never gets tired)

Just checked on him again and he is quite twitchy in his sleep.

Great that he took it. Was the same with DS, and I had got myself so worked up because he had refused point blank to take his EyeQ which we gave up on. They like to surprise us don't they

Don't know about the stroppy. It took 3½ hours to work tonight (think we need to discuss the dose) but he drifts off gently. I remember the first day he said he felt sick soon after taking it and I was in a panic, but he was fine.

He may have just been surprised as it is so different to how he is used to feeling and it sounds like it worked very quickly.

Hope you get a good night.

Yes Amper, he said he felt ill too and was acting a bit peculiar. When i said it was time for bed he got stroppy kicking his arms and legs and telling me no. He was saying he couldnt walk up the stairs. When i put him in bed, he kept trying to get out and was thrashing about. This is very unlike ds, he usually goes to bed no problems, just doesnt sleep once there and cant keep still or relax.

I think your right, he was definitely feeling different. I suppose this is probably the first time he has experienced his body feeling tired and probably even relaxed in years.

I hope he doesnt continue to react in this way.

It's hard to begin with, but try not to worry and give it a bit of time if you can.

If it is distressing him too much, maybe a lower dose that is slower at first would be easier on him? From what I understand there is quite a bit of leeway. And if he will take tablets ok as he did tonight maybe the slow release instead, especially if he tends to wake during the night.

I am sure it can be got right in the end

claw3 · 01/07/2010 23:40

Thanks Amper, hopefully he will feel better in the morning after having more sleep than he has had for years. All being well, I will do things a little differently tomorrow night, i wasnt expecting it to work so quickly and hopefully he will feel more relaxed.

Just checked on him again and the twitching has stopped and he looks more peaceful.

Thanks for holding my hand
