We have been offered a house!!!!!! With a garden!!!! And a downstairs toilt and bathroom (as well as upstairs) so I won;t have to worry about DS2 smearing poo on the toilet walls unsupervised.

I can't even begin to tell you how much of a relief I am feeling.

Now to start packing and to explain to DS2 what is going to be happening. Any ideas/hints would be greatly appreciated.

wow, fantastic news! that is so brilliant!

debs40 · 29/06/2010 11:14

Yay for you 5inthebed! Briliant news. How exciting. Is DS2 ASD? The NAS do a little guide about moving home on their website and they have some information on there too.

fightingtheLA · 29/06/2010 11:14

Can't offer any tips but just wanted to say how great that is! Hope all goes well.

Fantastic news! I ordered the NAS leaflet but ds is only 3 and it is aimed at older children. Not sure how old your son is but I thought it was good. Social stories?

My ds has been just fine with our recent move. We're doing a few things such as not driving past the old house and have placed the furniture in the same way. Haven't moved him into his long-awaited own room yet obviously there's plenty of time for that. We thought about decorating in similar colours as the old house but don't think there's the need as he seems settled.

Pre-school has provided continuity and just having the same routines at home for example a bath with dd and his usual bath toys, having Mr Tumble move with us to the new house, same posters around his cot too, have all given him anchor points.

The only problem is that the birds are louder here and he likes to wake up at 4 a.m to sing along

I'm so happy for you, keep us updated

He is only 4 Milady. Luckily he isn't rigid in his routines, but I will remember to keep a lot of his things the same. I've told him we are moving and he seems to think the flat is getting moved . Hopefully he will be fine.

Our current flat is off the main road and has no through traffic. The new house is on a main bus route . Hopefully he'll stay asleep as has circaden anyway.

at the flat being moved. We told ds "new house" lots and there is a Something Special episode about moving too, Justin Fletcher can do no wrong in my book.

My ds is rather relishing all the extra space and boy did he have a great time in the first few days playing with the empty cardboard boxes, stacking them and lining his soft toys up in them. It distracted him beautifully.

Will you be able to get childcare on the day? A removals firm? They are expensive (MIL paid for ours) but both those things helped a lot.

Hopefully your son will continue to sleep despite the buses and I agree that a downstairs bathroom is invaluable...

Brilliant news!

Our terraced house has a downstairs bathroom and the only time I wish it wasn't is in the middle of night. It's so much easier during the day and in the mornings, when I'm getting the kids ready to go out on my own, especially.

We live on a quiet-ish main road and the kids love sitting at the front window, watching the world go by. Specially the bits of the world on wheels!

Fantastic news

lou031205 · 29/06/2010 15:22

Wow! What I would give for a downstairs toilet

Marne · 29/06/2010 15:56

Great news 5inthebed, really pleased for you, it will change your life so much.

As for explaining to ds, i guess its hard. Luckily my dd2 handles big changes well (but not small changes), when we move i will be making a picture/photo book for dd2 explaining what will happen (we have used these when we go on holiday etc..).

5inthebed · 29/06/2010 16:24

Thanks everyone.

Luckily the house is on a road we walk on very often as it is on the way to my mams, so he'll be used to the area. We'll also have the keys for a eek or so before we have to move as well, so it won't be immediate into the house, lots of time to gets used to it.

Marne, I like the idea of a picture book. Will get the camera out and take pictures.
