Schools that have expressed an interest in becoming an Academy

There is a list of schools that have contacted the Department for Education to express their interest in becoming an Academy - worth checking out to see if your child's school or potential school is on the list!

There is at least one special school on the list that I recognise; there may very well be others.

Not sure at all what the implications will be for special schools that become an Academy.

Oh thank you so much for this. We have a school in mind, a very good MS school and I was shaking in my boots about it becoming an academy and wondering how in the world I would find out.

It is not there - hurrah!

Interesting link thanks. Not looking from aSEN pov just being nosy.

Expressing an interest doesn't mean they will do it. We have had a letter home from DS' school saying they are considering all the options and talking to the LA and Diocese before making a decision.
I think that means they want to know what is in it for them.

Interesting, thanks for posting this.

It's worrying that some LAs have a lot of interested schools - a parent in that LA could have a real lack of choice in the future if they have a child with SEN.

That's not true of our LA though - we don't have too many outstanding schools here!

Our school sent home a Governors' letter asking for views this week and saying they would not be proceeding with conversion at this stage.

I understand this list is just those schools who have asked for mroe information. They were asked to register on a site to obtain that.

The dd's school is on the list (non outstanding schools). What will it mean if the school becomes an Academy? (sorry but i have no idea), would this make life harder for sn children?

Marne · 27/06/2010 14:50

just realized there are 2 schools in our area with the same name (so not sure if its the dd's school) .

Marne, yes, becoming an Academy could potentially be very detrimental to the education of children with SEN

There is an article in the Guardian which give a good idea of the implications
