All I wanted was a coach trip...

With my friend H. But you find me a coach company with wheelchair access! I've just rung one because they said on the website they have some coaches with wheelchair lifts. Do they use them on their day excursions? Do they hell.

Just been told they're for private hire only. I am VERY angry about this, and my parents have just said, "I don't know what you're getting so worked up about!"

Erm how bout the fact that a whole host of trips are off limits to us because we don't drive and coach companies can discriminate, and break the law and seemingly get away with it?????!!

Fuming. The law needs to be changed and access provided.

oh this annoys me too, my mum and dad frequently go on wee trips down south and abroad etc but we cant join them as ds cant sit in a seat and his wheelchair doesnt really fold, just for once it would be nice to go away without being the one having to do all the driving.
the buses are out there but, as you say, only for private hire, they are really quite expensive though, our school hired one of these buses to take the kids out for the day and it was £300 odd quid and we still had to take one of the school buses to get everyone in and there are only 24 kids in the school!!

it's crap isn't it? just been asking DH about this (he used to be a bus driver) and apparently even ordinary local buses don't have to all be accessible until 2016, and coaches will be even later than that!

good luck with finding something suitable.

See my friend is a fully grown adult woman so we'd have no hope of lifting her, and with my sight and balance being what they are it'd be dangerous for all concerned. Not to mention steep steps play havoc with her hip

Completely backwards. I think we're just going to have to stick to trains (like today, 3 of us girls off shopping in Birmingham in a bit!), because at least we know there's access and help we can book in advance.
