How do you go about this?

Would you for things like mum said no to buddy system, when actually mum said if they could explain what good it would do. Or XX is working with XX on XX when XX is informally working on XX?

I would absolutely insist they change their minutes, and express horror that they weren't circulated and agreed before being published.

They will say, that they'll add your comments to the end, but you can remind them that it is their duty under the data protection act to hold accurate data and you therefore expect them to change their document to reflect a TRUE account of the meeting.

And next time, YOU take the minutes. no problem at all with saying every 10 seconds 'hang on a minute, I'm still writing, let me clarify - you said this and she said that... okay I've finished now, I'll read them out so everyone can sign them, unless there is anything with which you disagree, then we can discuss some more so that I am clear'.... etc etc.

It takes either balls or just complete loss of emotional nerve. I have the latter. I'm so beaten down I don't care about my own or anyone elses feelings in these meetings.

StarOfValkyrie · 25/06/2010 13:21

No, you refer to it and say you'd like the date you will be contacted inserted.

Thanks star, it was horrible, unbelievably that was the first 'official' meeting that the school have had, i wont be going to one alone again that's for sure.

Would you phone or write?

There is only 4 more days left of term here.

I would always write, because what you are doing is producing evidence for the future.

Unfortunately you will most like be in a position quite regularly where you complain about something and they reassure you, and you go away reassured and nothing changes, so you HAVE to get these things in writing so you can say 'I have been trying to resolve this issue for 8 months, see all these documents and letters etc. Don't pretend you didn't know there was even an issue'.

Dya see?

Sorry about the extra admin you most certainly don't need in you life, you I'm afraid there isn't much alternative for most of us.

I'm rubbish at letter writing lol

Start it off along the lines of

RE minutes of meeting held on xx

I was surprised to recieve a copy of the minutes without having had a chance to view them first. Having now read through them there are a few innacuracies.

With reference to being contacted by xx on xx (what would i put here)

I look forward to recieving the amended minutes and trust they will be CCed to all original recipients.

Sorry for being such a pain.

ABat, you're not being a pain. These letters are hard because they are emotionally charged, but do it enough and you'll get better at just churning them out, using the templates of your previous letters iyswim.

And in any case, it sounds find to me what you have written.

You can say wit reference to being contacted by xx on xx. There was clearly nointention at the time, since this has not happened, so to ensure there is nothing misleading in the document I would like it removed.

When I first started out on my Statement journey, I naively thought that all the professionals involved had the best interests of my daughter at heart.

I have since realised that this is not always the case and that some professionals will carefully and willfully word their reports and advice, in such a way as to avoid specifying the therapies and support your child needs.

I am now much more aware and assertive. I find it best to make your own contemporaneous notes; for this it is best to take someone along with you to meetings, and get them to make notes, so you can concentrate on what is being said.

If no one else can come with you, adopt Star's approach and take your own, stop them if they go too fast and make sure that you clarify any "misunderstandings".
