I have just seen the speech unit where i wanted ds1 to go again. I am becoming more and more doubtful that is right for him. I know if he goes into ms then he will need alot of speech therapy in his statement which is in the process of being done. Ds1 couldnt get out of the unit quick enough he was saying muumy come door etc, he was far happier in the classroom again.
Anyway my question is can ~I change my mind about the placement and send them an amendement to the letter I sent previously.
Also can some one tell me i am doing the right thing even if they dont believe me. Feeling very but my list of for ms is quite bit bigger than cons.

yes of course you can BUT you might want to keep it in until the last minute as a bargaining point, as it is very likely there will be more people wanting the unit than there are places. By giving it up at the last minute you might get better provision in MS in return.

Best thing is to talk to IPSEA about strategies.

AFWIW I would definately go with your gut instinct, because in this area, gut instinct is usually far from that and based on a high level of parental expertise.

you can change oyur mind at any time, even once the statement is written (although of course that then involves reviews, and evidence etc)

star is right - you have a good bargaining chip here.

and definitely agreethat you should go with gut instinct. your ds was making his views clear - he was anxious in the unit and wanted ot leave. push for the place where you know he will be happiest - that is where the most learning is going to happen

Is the unit attached to the same mainstream school that you want him to go to?

Units aren't named separately on a statement so if it is part of the same school, it will be the school itself that is named on the statement and there will be nothing to stop him attending the ms part iyswim.

Yes you can change your mind, i think you are doing the right thing, its far more important that your ds is happy and if he's happy in the MS setting then go for it.

I was worried about sending dd2 to MS, luckily the choice was taken away from me as we didn't get a sn place. I now think MS (with the rite support) could work well for dd2, the school have been great and dd2 will be having full time 1:1 and outreach from the sn school, she will also be getting SALT (1:1 and with another child). Just make sure you get the amount of SALT and 1:1 on the statement.

thanks you are right again Star. I will keep it to myself until the provision is finalised. silverfrog you are right as well he didnt like it there and he loves school and I could see that all changing.
Sugar he already has a place at the school as it is round the corner from us
Thanks am feeling much better about it now.

If they think you are even 'thinking' of the unit they'll up the provision for not attending.

Hope it works out. Don't expect SLT to be specified on the provisional btw. SLT are given forms to complete by the LA who then remove the specificity with clever wording.

No here they name it as the unit attached to ms ..., I made sure ds statement read it as wanted in black and White
