or any aid that attaches with velcro.

I know its a pain cleaning the fuzz that gets caught in the fastenings.

I discovered today whilst cleaning something with a big strip of velcro, that a old nit comb works wonders!

Just thought I would pass this on in case it helps. Its the best thing I have tried so far.

oooh thanks.

dd1 doesn't use supports, but we have gone through so many pairs of school shoes because she "wears" through the velcro fastenings (shejust spends a lot more time crawling/rolling around on carpet than your average 7 year old, and can't accurately do up her shoes...) in fact, I noticed this morning that another trip to the shoe shop was due, as her shoes won't do up properly anymore - will have to dig out nitcomb tonight and set about them!

Mine doesnt wear them either but I know lots of children who do and their parents often say what a pain it is to clean them.

My DS has a thing about everything he wears being really secure. He pulls his velcro straps so tight he snaps them!

This 'thing' is beginning to make a bit more sense now he has been dx with ASD.

At least I can keep them clean until he breaks them though

Thanks! Will try this evening. DD wears hers at night only but they still seem to have acquired a coating of fluffy dust from somewhere

ds2 wears splints and they are full of grass cuttings, dirt and anything else that belongs in the garden.
Thanks for the tip I'll give it a go.

Thanks! My son has worn AFOs for 9 years now and I never thought of trying a nit comb on the velcro!

(off now to scrape off a lot of fuzz...)
