We have been awarded top priority on the council waiting list!!!!

We currently live in a flat with no accessable garden, and we are more or less housebound during the holidays as I can't get out without help with three kids, DS2 has autism and is a runner and DS3 in a pram. I am so excited about the possibility of having a house with a garden by the summer holidays I could cry.

No more having to stay indoors and the kids going stir crazy, they'll be able to run around in their own garden without me having to (hopefully) worry which one I have to keep my eye on.

Gosh I feel like bursting into tears. Been waiting for three tentative weeks for them to award it, I feel a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

oh good

Marne · 19/06/2010 16:28

That's great news, i hope something comes up soon, we have been waiting for a year (top of the list), we are trying to apply with another council but they are saying we can only have a 2 bed and we need a 3.

meltedmarsbars · 19/06/2010 17:15

fingers crossed for you. Outside space is fantastic.

ApocalypseCheese · 19/06/2010 17:21

Ha, which area are you in ??

My poor sis has 2 dcs with severe Autism, epilepsy etc. She is unable to leave the house without help yet the council arent interested as they arent physically disabled ( her son uses a wheelchair outdoors tho )

I'm v pleased for you btw, your life is about to become a lot easier.

Newcastle. DS2's social worker wrote a strong letter, and we had to ask for a priority form (2nd time we've done it).

Yes, outside space is very important, DS2 loves being outside, he is a free spirit, but needs to be safe when he is.

Marne, I've had my fingers and toes crossed for you for a long time.

Brilliant news.

Marne · 19/06/2010 19:38

I'm sure you will have more luck then us 5inthebed, i think our problem is the fact that there are hardly any 3 bed houses in our area, we live in the middle of nowhere (its just tiny villages). I'm sure you will get something very soon.

5inthebackofthenet · 19/06/2010 22:06

That sucks Marne. I bet there is probably a few old single people living in them as well. MI annoys me as she has this huge three bed house, massive garden, and sh can't look after it, council do her garden, and I clean it once a week for yet, yet she won't move. But thats another thread.

Will still keep my fingers crossed for you.

5intheback, brilliant news. Good housing is so vital. I read a report not so long ago that disabled children are the worst housed people in the country.

Marne, that is shameful. I hope your sis takes it further and doesn't let the council get away with this. Sounds completely discriminatory.
