Paying for an assessment

An assessment centre has been recommended to me but it costs £345 for the assessment.

Is this standard?

My ds is at private school so therefore am I right in thinking we can't be assessed by the state?

Please don't say that because he's at private I can afford the £345, every penny I earn goes on his school fees because it is important to me. So I'll have to find the extra money from somewhere if its the only way, probably unfortunately credit card .

That sounds cheap for a private assessment tbh (we were quoted £500-750), what professionals are involved ? You could try your LEA but ours wouldn't fund an EP as ds was in a private school but we do get OT (now very occasionally though) on NHS through gp referral to Community Paed, so that may be worth a try first. Seen your other thread and wonder if that school is really the best place for him, not all private schools are as sympathetic or helpful with SEN.

To be honest LIZS that's why I'm keen to get him assessed, as I am more than happy to pay for education and also to change schools, but don't know what I'm looking at for the school to be able to support.

So am wondering if its better for me to get assessment and then at least I know what SEN support I'm looking for. Seeing GP next week.

At the moment no professionals are involved, dh doesn't want there to be anything wrong with his boy, and so all conversations with him end with the line of but that's normal for a boy, and school don't see him as an issue.

I'm even beginning to doubt myself, but I want someone professional to tell me either yes he is normal, or no he isn't.
