Well I gush, you might call it something else, but come on, let's just talk about how fab they are.

I've enjoyed a holiday, a festival and now a lovely Friday with Lotbags. She's just great.

She loved the Big Chill and she dnaced all day every day, arms in air, grin on face, little chest bopping up and down. While she was on the balnket she'd bum shuffle round in a circle then lean to the side and raise a leg in the air, laughing away. She wanted us to take her deep into the crowd, every time we danced with her in our arms she'd say there, there and we'd run in a bit with her and sh'd do her 'happy hands'. She had her pic taken by dozens & dozens of people, she asked for cuddles with overjoyed peopel, she was truly delightful. She cheered 'horray, party' when we went back into the music area on the 2nd day. When we packed up the tent she just sat happily in her buggy, oh just the perfect child really!

Her latest thing is holding up her thump and finger and saying 'cool man'.

She puts her hands to her mouth and shouts 'ello bebe' to the bump and gives it a kiss.

She loves her tummy being tickled so she pulls up her top with one hand and takes your hand with the other and says 'more more tic tic' and everytime you stop she takes your hand again and repeats 'more more tic tic'.

She asks to walk to the car and stuff now. I hold her under her arms and she walks to the car, if I forget as in a rush she says 'walk mummy, walk'.

She's developed a love of cold baked beans from tin. When she's had her fill, without fail she dips her hands in and washes her face with the last few and the juice. Round over the eyes and down over cheeks!

She loves to pretend to be a dog. She says' 'I'm a dog' and goes up ion her haunches, little hands do a begging dog impersonation and she barks and pants!

With a smirk on her face she does a mad fake cry and holds her arms up for a cuddle. Then she points at me and does the fake cry indicating I have to pretend to cry so she can comfort me!

She has a toy soft horse that she sits on, holds it's head then bum shuffles around on making clip clop noises.

She can not only count to ten she can say every month in the year! She oftern leaves off October and November, but my God it melts the heart to hear her carefully pronounce August, and all the others, it's so fab.

Ummmm, that'll do.
Over to you for your DD/DS's ................

thats lovely RnB

I know I feel like just because I mona and vent on here about dd people will now like I dont love her

I always have another positive story, but this sort of benefits me! The paed prescribed melatonin and we started using it on tuesday, she woke up once on wednesday night but went quickly off but the rest of the nights she has slept!

heartinthecountry · 13/08/2005 11:32

Your love for your ds1 really shines through Jimjams - no-one would think you love him any less. BTW I had a snigger at your dh legging it with ds1 after the letterbox incident!

Okay - things I love about dd:

She has the cutest little pixie face and the biggest grin.

She is developing a wicked sense of humour and I have no doubt that she totally understands the word 'minx'.

She is trying sooo hard to talk and communicate and I love her 'chatty hands' (she signs).

She has a little friend at nursery - both of them are non-verbal but apparently they sit next to each other and frequently dissolve into giggles and no-one else knows why.

She's mine.

heartinthecountry · 13/08/2005 11:33

Oh dear that really was a bit gushy .

Jimjams · 13/08/2005 13:55

Hey that's big RnB (and sleeeep fio- ) Often I find that ds1's improvements lead to problems. For example he went through a couple of weeks when he started pinching the children at school (to make them scream so he could see inside their mouths) Nightmare- but it was the first time he had done anything other than totally blank them as if they didn't exist. last time I was in he shared a drink with a classmate- so hopefully interaction is now more appropriate. But I can hardly say "oh hooray he's pinching"

The letterbox story made me laugh as well HITC- and its one of the few letterboxes that he still tries to look through. I love your "she's mine" btw- I feel like that as well.

my ds is gorgeous and exasperating in equal measure I think! like Jimjams we have limitations on the simplest things. Festival? Even a kids' puppet show terrified him last week because of the lights and loud music! Just getting him from a to b is so wearing and I wish he would stop breaking things!

But, this is a gushy thread so...... he's so handsome my boy, with the cutest, sweetest smile. He gives great cuddles and a couple of times has taken my face in his hands and kissed me, which just melted me. He's clever when he wants to be. He's taught himself to use the computer, playstation, dvd player and video and knows more about the remote controls than I do. The one thing he can't get the hang of is re-winding videos and yesterday I was woken by him putting a tape in one of my hands and the remote control in the other! Who needs words? Of course he only makes this much effort to communicate when it's something HE wants but it made me laugh.

He loves to sit in my seat in the car and 'pretend' to drive.
He loves Bob the Builder and Tom and Jerry, they make him really chuckle. The roadrunner saying "beep beep" reduces him to helpless laughter.
He likes to play ball with my mum's dog and is getting quite good at throwing.
He is a great climber and quite fearless (although this is giving me grey hairs!).
He has all the staff at his school wrapped around his little finger.
Is that enough gushing yet?

coppertop · 13/08/2005 17:30

RnB - You've solved a mystery for me! Ds2 waves with his palm facing him and I could never work out why. It never occurred to me that it's because that's how he sees other people's hands when they wave to him.

I'm still sniggering at the thought of Jimjams' dh and ds1 doing a runner with a man waving his stick at them!!!!

Thomcat · 13/08/2005 19:02

JimJams - I know you're not embrassed off your son in that way, gosh, far, far from it, I was refereing to when you said you felt "a bit stupid puttiing that a 6 year old has finally start to wave'. Nobody could ever doubt you love.

RnB, yes Lottie used to do back 2 front waVING, AS YOU SAY THEY ARE MIRRORING WHAT THEY SEE. lOVELY TO HEAR ABOUT HIM PLAYING LIKE THAT YESTERDAY [SMILE] Whoops, sorry for caps.

Hmmm, I don't really think there's anything I could GUSH about, much as I'd like to and I've tried to think of something other than torturing his cousin Things have got SO much harder for us SO quickly

Thomcat · 13/08/2005 20:07

Sorry to hear that Davros.

Davros No improvement then? Does school start again soon? How well do they handle him now? They must have lots of experience in challenging behaviours.... I think I'm going to dive out and and run away again

Davros · 13/08/2005 20:25

Don't want to hijack "positive" thread with my moanings! Just started another thread I've been meaning to start for AGES.

Thomcat · 13/08/2005 20:26

They're not 'moanings'. Sorry it's so bad at the moment Davros.

Ds2 has developed a sort of adapted echolalia sometimes which means he comes out with some funny phrases. For example he likes the Mog stories by Judith Kerr and in one of them it says "Mog said nothing but she was not happy."
The other day when I made him put his shoes on against his will he looked at me very solemnly and said "Ds2 said nothing but he was not happy".

Another favourite from Thomas the tank engine is "Never mind James, we always said your wooden brakes were no good", adapted to fit me when I failed to live up to expectations
"Never mind Ds2, we always said your Mummy was no good."

Fio2 · 13/08/2005 21:36

lol saker!

i have to add this one but it is about my ds. We had a carnival here today and all the business's round here do 'floats' (ie decorated trucks and lorries and even mobility scooters) on the back of one truck there was band rapping "something or other bass" ds said to me really excitedly, 'hold my coat' and then he started doing all this breakdancing on the path in front of everyone he was doing twists and caterpillar diuves and allsorts, it was so funny!

RnB and Saker,

ds is talking a lot more which is good but it does drive me mad like - ds - "what is a breadstick made of". Reply "bread". ds - "Why is it made of bread?" Like how am I supposed to answer that!

Also he notices tiny details on cars and lorries and wants to know why they have certain lights/pipes etc. I will be very surprised if he doesn't grow up to be an engineer.

Eulalia · 14/08/2005 11:09

sorry missed my smile - RnB and Saker

JJ - we are working on OW! Dd1 cannot tell us when she has hurt herself or if anything does hurt... so when I do see her bump herself I try to rub that spot and go OW!OW! or something along those lines.

It was fab reading about all of our kids.

We have had the best day today - friends from the UK popped in on their 4 week aussie adventure and we got to spend the day with them. They had not seen dd2 and loved her on sight - as we all do. THey used to babysit dd1 every now and then. I used to work with the husband. Last time they saw dd1 she was commando crawling, short hair, vocalising but no words or signs. A little over a year later she is walking, using lots of words and signs. They said they would never had recognised her if they passed her in the street.

Dd1 was so good to day - walking everywhere, chatting away, eating nicely ( we ate out for breakfast and lunch!) She had the best day. We were so surprised that she lasted all day with just a little cat nap as opposed to her big afternoon sleep. She also had four adoring audience members - am sure helped a lot. I am now feeling a little sad - they are fab people and I miss seeing them ( and others). No idea when we will see them next. Not for a couple of years I suppose.
