I am in the same area Nutty. Haven't heard of anything my 6 year old has dyspraxia. Have you a OT onboard?

nuttyredhead · 11/06/2010 18:32

Hi,
No we not got OT Onboard! He had OT assessment when he was 4yr old but he did not need any intervention apparantly. He can't ride a bike or use a knife and fork ,buttons are a problem too. his main probs are sort of short term memory, organisational skills and a real NEED for routine. He is experiencing sensory overload from school but my paed or ed psyc will not recognise this as a problem for him.

Have little faith in any of the professionals at the moment and school are a waste of time. That prob sounds harsh and i know lots of family get good support, but not us!

sorry to ramble!. Do you have an OT working with you,how do they help?

We got a private one. Our son also saw a NHS one when he was 4 then was discharged when he was 5 as he was too old for the under 5's service. Got him put back in the system and assessed after 3 months of waiting then waited another 7/8 months. Phoned them the over 5s person had left and they were closing the sensory intergration program as staff had left and were not being replaced.

The OT helped by assessing our son properly and her report got the LEA to agree to statutory assess our son for a statement.
What school were you thinking of for secondary?

wasuup3000 · 11/06/2010 19:07

Who is your EP not the crazy gluten free diet one?

nuttyredhead · 11/06/2010 19:17

Ha HA crazy gluten free diet one!! No we got Leslie Carr. She is lovely but not providing help that i want him to have.

I want george to go to bowland sec school but he wants to got to Ribblesdale with others from his class.I spoke to the Dyspraxia foundation coordinator and she mentioned longridge,it is small and she had heard good things as far as special needs support.

what sort of problems does your son have?

OO She has retired now and set up her own private clinic don't thinks she was that impressed with the LEA set up.
Bowland is supposed to be good and Longridge both impossible to get into without a statement if you are out of catchment though.
Ribblesdale does have a great SEN department so I have heard.

My son has dyspraxia and possibly ASD as well.

nuttyredhead · 11/06/2010 19:32

Thats about right, i have more chance of flying to the moon than getting a statement for george!.

I am seriously considering the private route and also asking for a OT referral.

wasuup3000 · 11/06/2010 19:36

Ask your GP to re-refer you back to CAMHS and for a 2nd opinion from?

wasuup3000 · 11/06/2010 19:37

I meant back to the OT service and a 2nd opinion for the ASD?

nuttyredhead · 11/06/2010 19:40

Will do, thanks. The CP told me that at georges school there are two children that Dr P won't diagnose and she can't understand why.He asks for these assessments but then does not listen to what other professionals have to say. I think his favourite saying is "see you in 6 months" lol

Hey Wasuup
Who was your private OT that you saw if you don't mind me asking.

OP posts:
wasuup3000 · 11/06/2010 20:10

LOL I think so too!

Apparently once DR P has made up his mind then thats it and he won't change it!

The OT I saw is from Lytham the OT manager at the Acorn In Accy was impressed when I told her who it was. Did you see the news report on the BBC about dysparaxia a few months back?

not sure if they can help, but brainwave centre has a place in warrington. they do assessments there & it saves you traveling to bridgwater.

wasuup3000 · 18/06/2010 12:57
