If you can demonstrate that he has additional care needs over and above other children his age, you can claim Disability Living Allowance for him. It's not means tested and is for him, not you, so shouldn't affect your income support. It's a pig of a form to fill in, though.

Sorry to pry, but why is he on the SEN?

Most benefits for disabilities are for care and mobility, so if he needs additional support with either, he might be entitled to DLA, but it is really hard to get and the forms are a nightmare. Other than that, there is carers allowance, but your DS will have to be receiving middle rate or higher rate care on DLA.

Other than that, there is nothing else.

If sleep is a big issue then there is a chance you might get DLA yes.

What you need to do is start by calling them for a form; if youa re successful you will get it given from the day you call (backdated) so make that a first stop.
Then have a look at the guide to claiming DLA on the Cerebra website.

If tehy refuse initially it's often just routine so don't panic but send it back for reconsideration. if still a no then you won't qualify but it is (rightly) based on care needs rather than having a DX.

Look here for the info you'll need. You can do the forms online.

Though I'll add that it's better to phone for the forms, then you get the award dated form the day you asked for the forms and not the day they're completed and received.

DLA is not really at all about a condition, but the care needs that arise from it.

As an example:
Boy 1 - condition affects bladder control. Wears nappies at night. Nappies hold urine well. No DLA.

Boy 2 - condition affects bladder control. Wears nappies at night. Nappies don't hold urine so parent has to be up at night for 20 mins to wash/change bedding/resettle boy. DLA awarded.

Do you see? So the real answer to your question is "none". There are no benefits that you can claim because your child has a SEN. But, if the reason your child has a SEN leads him/her to require more care or supervision than a typical child of his/her age then you may qualify for DLA, which in turn may qualify you for extra Child Tax Credits and Carer's Allowance, and premiums on benefits such as Housing Benefit.
